HYDERABAD, June 26: The Hyderabad police on Thursday raided Gari Khata and arrested nine persons engaged in manufacturing spurious oil.

The raid was conducted after the police received information that some people were manufacturing spurious oil and selling the same with labels of multinational companies.

Those arrested were identified as Shakir Shaikh, Aijaz Ahmad Qureshi, Javed Qureshi, Rafiq Deswali, Din Mohammad Shaikh, Rizwan Yousufzai, Shakeel Qureshi, Farhan Arain and Sajid Qureshi.

The police seized 13 drums containing 2,600 litres of spurious oil, 10 cartons of the Caltex company, empty tins, three punching machines, one plastic coating machine and other relevant items.

ASP Inam Waheed, who led the raiding police party, told journalists at the Fort police station that the arrested people used to sell spurious oil in tins of multinational companies. He said representatives of multinational companies had reached Hyderabad and the recovered oil was being sent for laboratory test.

The police said the place from where the oil was recovered belonged to Gulzar Ahmad and raids were being conducted to arrest him.

MARCH: A large number of people, including councillors and businessmen, staged a march from the Pucca Qilla Chowk to the press club here on Thursday to mark the International Anti-Narcotics Day.

They carried banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the use of narcotics.
