KARACHI, June 26: Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah played a very important role in the awakening of Muslim women during the Pakistan movement.

This was stated by educationist Maryam Faruqi at a seminar organized by the Pakistan Academy of Letters, says a press release.

She said: “On the one hand, Ms Jinnah took part in the female liberation movement and, on the other, united women on the political platform. After the creation of Pakistan, she urged women to educate themselves.”

Poet Fatima Hasan said in order to take the message of the Quaid-i-Azam, Ms Jinnah travelled through the length and breadth of Pakistan. She brought all her energies to bear upon the intensification of the female liberation movement, she said.

Poet Fahmida Riaz praised the government for making the current year the year of the Madar-i-Millat.

The principal of the Sindh Madressah, Prof Mohammad Ali Shaikh, said that Ms Jinnah had made women politically aware.

Those who also spoke included Mohammad Yousuf Qureishi and Agha Noor Mohammed Pathan.
