GUJRANWALA, June 25: The Pakistan Medical Association and DHQ Hospital’s doctors and paramedical staff protested against an NGO for grabbing the labour room and humiliating women medical officers and nurses.
Speaking at a protest meeting at the DHQ Hospital here on Wednesday, PMA president Dr Ishtiaq Safder Tarer, women MOs Dr Robina Anwer and Dr Rehana Butt demanded stern action against the officials of NGO Anjuman Falaho Bahbood-i-Insaniat.
They said that the labour room was the property of the hospital and no NGO had the right to occupy it for its vested interests. They accused that NGO officials harassed women, lady doctors and staff nurses and then humiliated them when they did not allow them to install a dialysis machine.
On the other hand, the NGO officials said that they wanted to install the dialysis machine for the provision of better facilities to patients, but doctors and paramedical staff demolished the wall of the labour room where the machine was being installed.
However, DHQ medical superintendent Dr Shafqat Hashmi ordered an inquiry and formed a five-member inquiry committee for the purpose.
KILLED: A landlord was killed on Wednesday in a clash between two rival groups over a land dispute in Eminabad village.
Asif and Arshad of Nanandpur village had been at daggers drawn with each other for the last two years. On Wednesday, Arshad was on the way to his fields when Asif and his accomplices opened fire on him near their outhouse. He died on the spot.
Police have registered a case and are investigating.
KIDNAPPED: A man was kidnapped for ransom by four men in the Civil Line area here on Wednesday.
Mansha and Nabi Ahmad had sent Rs400,000 from Italy to their father Munir through his friend. Munir was on his way home after receiving the money from him when he was intercepted by armed men on the Suigas Road. They took him to some unknown place, snatched money from him and demanded heavy ransom from his family for his release by telephone.
Police have registered a case and are investigating.
THRASHED: A sub-engineer of the City Tehsil Council was beaten up by a building contractor and his men for not releasing his pending bills here on Wednesday. Hadayatullah was present in his office when Farooq Ahmad and his men came there and thrashed him when he refused to release their payment.
It was stated that the contractor could not complete the construction work, but still he was demanding full payment. The City Tehsil Council administration ordered an inquiry into the incident.
The victim has reported the matter to police for a legal action.
BOOKED: A former Wasa clerk was booked on the charge of embezzlement here on Wednesday.
Recovery clerk Ishtiaq Hussain had not deposited Rs52,000 water supply bills in the treasury which he received from consumers in Peoples Colony. Later, an inquiry was conducted which found him guilty of charges.
A case has been registered against the accused.
