SHEIKHUPURA, June 25: An inspector was shot dead while two passersby sustained bullet injuries when two unidentified motorcyclists opened indiscriminate fire in vegetables market here on Wednesday.

Inspector Abdul Ghafoor alias Thoura, posted in the Punjab Constabulary Headquarters, was on the way to his office in Farooqabad. As he reached near the vegetables market, two motorcycle riders intercepted him and fired on him and escaped. Consequently, he died instantly while two passersby Younas and Nazir received bullet injuries. The motive behind the incident could not be known.

Sources, however, said that the elder son of the deceased inspector had killed his uncle over property dispute some time back. Besides, Ghafoor had also divorced his first wife, they said.

A-Division police have registered a case and are investigating.

Meanwhile, landlord Amir Ali was shot dead in his house on resistance by bandits in Syedwala on Wednesday.

The police are going into the matter.
