KARACHI, June 25: An alleged bandit was shot dead by police in, as they described, an encounter with the armed bandits in Orangi Town on Wednesday.
Police said that two armed suspects snatched a motorcycle (RP-1827) from Mumtaz Khan in Mominabad Orangi Town. As Mumtaz raised alarm, two police officials patrolling nearby rushed to the spot.
On seeing the police, the suspects opened fire at them, as a result of which a pedestrian Gul Zaman was injured. Police returned the fire and shot one of the suspect dead, who was later identified as Mohammad Hanif, while his other accomplice Allahwarayo was arrested.
Police claimed recovery of two pistols and snatched motorcycle from their possession. The body of the suspect was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem examination.
ARRESTED: In another encounter in Shershah, police claimed to have arrested an armed suspect after an exchange of fire with them on Wednesday.
Police said that five armed men barged into a soap factory at Alamgir Road, Shershah. After depriving the inmates of Rs35,000, three cell phones, they escaped in a Suzuki (AL-0016).
Responding immediately on the information, a police mobile of 15, stationed at Paracha graveyard chased the suspects. After exchange of fire, they succeeded to arrest one of the suspects, later identified as Wali and recovered a pistol from his possession.
However, his four accomplices managed to escaped from the spot leaving behind their vehicle.
With the help of the arrested suspect, police identified the absconding suspects as Mohammad Yousaf, Sardar, Rais Ahmed and Khursheed.
SUICIDE: A middle-aged man committed suicide by consuming poisonous substance in Orangi Town. Police said that Abdul Mannan, 40, had consumed an insecticide, after which he was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he died during treatment.
Police said that Mannan was father of three children and was jobless.
BODY FOUND: The bullet riddled body of a young man was found from the area near New Sabzi Mandi in the limits of Gadap police station. Police said that the body was identified as of Mohammad Yousuf alias Asif, 27. His body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem examination.
After the initial investigation, police said that the murder was seemed to be a result of some enmity between Afghan groups.
In the premises of Civil Hospital Karachi, a man was found dead on Wednesday evening.
Police said that the man, who was later identified as Mohammad Liaquat and a resident of Lahore from his national identity card, was found dead under the shed of patient’s waiting area. Beside his body, two jars containing snakes of some species were also found, police said.
However, hospital sources said that the cause of his death could not be immediately ascertained.
