BAHAWALPUR: The border posts along the stretch between Fort Abbas and Sadiqabad of Desert Rangers in Cholistan have been electrified with solar power energy.

This was stated by Pakistan Rangers (Punjab) Director General Maj-Gen Tahir Javed Khan here on Friday. He, along with Desert Rangers (Bahawalpur division) sector commander Brig Riazul Hasan, inaugurated a number of projects at the Rangers’ Headquarters here.

The DG said special measures had been taken to provide facilities to the troops deployed in far-flung places. Supply of electricity and drinking water had been ensured at the check posts to improve the performance of the force in the vast desert area, he said.

He said the posts without electricity poles had been equipped with solar energy. Refrigerators and filtration plants also had been installed at various points.

He said an effective policy had been worked out to control smuggling across the border and settle the issue of inadvertent crossings.

During the inspection of the Rangers’ public school and college here, Maj-Gen Tahir said 12 students from Balochistan had studied here. He said there were 23 Rangers’ public schools and colleges across the country (12 of them being run by the Rangers through its own resources).

He also inaugurated upgrade work at Desert Rangers 25-Wing (Karar) near the city.
