MUMBAI: Pakistan cricket team’s head coach Dav Whatmore had recently stated that language proved to be a barrier during his stint with the team and therefore he could not attain a very high standard of success which was expected of him.

However, no such communication problems have been faced by the other foreign support staff-member, the physio Dale Naylor.

When reminded of Whatmore’s statement, Naylor said: “That is not my experience. Pakistan players are more than capable of grasping anything to do with cricket. I have enjoyed working with them whenever I have been given an opportunity to do so.”

The renowned physio and trainer is likely to be retained with the team at least till the end of the ICC World Twenty20 this year. “I have been working with the team for 14 years. I have spent a long time assessing fitness to compete for many teams and sports for a long time,” he added.

The late Bob Woolmer, too, didn’t face problems in communicating with the Pakistani players, a fact endorsed by the late coach’s son Dale Woolmer.

“I don’t remember my dad commenting on a language barrier during his association with Pakistan team,” said Dale. “Every once in a while, we do have communication with Younis Khan! It is always great to hear from the players and we always follow the progress of the Pakistan team.”
