ISLAMABAD, June 24: The use of biometrics technology by different organizations would minimize security breaches and ensure proper identification of individuals, said Federal Minister and Coordinator General Comstech Dr Attaur Rahman.

“This technology allows identification through various means such as finger printing, voice recognition, facial features and others,” he was talking to newsmen at Comstech forum on Biometrics: Identification Technology for a Secure World” here on Tuesday.

Atta said the biometrics, a fast emerging area tackled the issue of security and was being utilized by agency like National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra).

He said the biometrics was essential to ensure security of operations within organisation where security is critical so that proper identification of the individuals could be ensured.

This is also an area linked to the whole field of banking so that withdrawal and transfer of the money could be carried out effectively, he added.

The demand for increased accuracy, a high level of consumer awareness and lower costs are making Biometrics technologies more attractive, Dr Atta said.

He said recent advances in emerging technologies held immense prospects for the well-being of mankind as whole. It has been felt that OIC member countries are not doing enough to employ these technologies to their advantage.

“As the demand for privacy safeguards grows,” he said, “biometrics, which offers high levels of protection against information and identity fraud are expected to show impressive gains with large scale deployment of Biometrics identification and authorization systems throughout the world.”—-APP
