Opposition ‘buying’ votes

Published June 25, 2003

LAHORE, June 24: National Alliance secretary general and Senator Muhammad Ali Durrani has accused the opposition of indulging in horse trading to make its no-trust motion against the speaker a success.

Speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday, he, however, declined to name the means the opposition was utilizing as horse-trading, saying the tactics were facing a tragic end as even some opposition members were annoyed over it.

Asked who were those annoyed members, he said they would come to limelight during voting on the motion.

He warned the opposition that showing reservations on the LFO after NA speaker’s ruling could cost them their membership.

He said that after the failure of the no-trust motion, the opposition would also lose its right to object against the LFO. He said there was no problem with the LFO in the NWFP where the MMA was in power but in the centre it was an obstacle for they were in opposition there. — Staff Reporter
