PESHAWAR, June 23: NWFP Chief Secretary Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi held separate meetings with the district coordination officers (DCOs) and Nazims on Monday to discuss and resolve the row between the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal government and the district governments in the province.
All the 24 district Nazims, who had sent their resignations to President Gen Pervez Musharraf, attended the meeting.
Peshawar Nazim Azam Afridi told Dawn that the Nazims apprised the chief secretary of the tussle with the provincial government and reiterated their demands in accordance with the Local Government Ordinance, 2001.
The Nazims, he said, handed over a working paper to the chief secretary, who assured them that he would take up the issues with the federal government and the provincial local government minister.
Mr Qureshi told the Nazims that he would try to bridge the gap between the province and the centre and assured them that the government would fully implement the Local Government Ordinance and restore powers of the district Nazims, Mr Afridi said.
Later the chief secretary presided over a meeting of the DCOs at his office.
