LAHORE, June 22: Punjab Communication and Works Minister Chaudhry Zaheeruddin has ordered the constitution of mobile teams for checking standard of material being used for the construction of roads and buildings.

The teams should submit reports of every project within a fortnight of the inspections, he said while presiding over a meeting here on Sunday.

The minister said he would himself conduct surprise visits to check the quality of development projects and take stern action against those found using substandard material. The chief engineers of the departments should inspect the projects in the field rather than sitting in their offices, he said.

He warned that the officers found protecting firms and contractors accused of using substandard material would be taken to task.
