MUZAFFARABAD, June 21: Activists of the National Students Federation (NSF) staged a demonstration on Friday to condemn what they called conspiracies to divide Kashmir.
Holding red party flags, banners and placards, the NSF activists took out a procession from Upper Adda and after marching through the streets of the old city culminated at Bank Road where a public meeting was held.
“No accession, no division; we want United Kashmir”, “We reject every proposal including Chenab formula that divides the Kashmiris”, read two of the banners.
The demonstrators chanted slogans against Kashmir’s accession (either to Pakistan or India) and in support of complete independence of the Himalayan region.
They also raised chants against AJK Prime Minister Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan for supporting “Chenab formula” and demanded his resignation.
Speaking to the demonstrators, NSF president Shujaat Kazmi alleged that the AJK premier was supporting the division of Kashmir at the behest of Pakistani rulers. “But he (AJK PM) must bear in mind that the patriotic Kashmiris will not allow implementation of any proposal or formula that will divide them,” he said.
He pointed out that all other political parties of Azad Kashmir had completely rejected the PM’s proposal. “The AJK rulers should desist from doing anything which could compel the patriotic elements to resort to armed struggle in Azad Kashmir like that of occupied Kashmir.”
Traffic remained suspended for half an hour on the bustling road during the demonstration. A large number of police personnel were also deployed, however no untoward incident occurred and the demonstrators dispersed peacefully.
