HYDERABAD, June 21: The government of Sindh has decided to reopen closed schools where local people would be appointed as teachers on permanent basis.

This was stated by the director, monitoring and evaluation wing, education department, Mohammad Ilyas, while speaking at a seminar titled “education for all” held under the aegis of the Sindh Development Society at a local hotel on the other day.

Speaking on the occasion, executive district officer (education), Hyderabad, Manzoor Hussain Bhutto said education was the right of everyone, irrespective of gender, because it played main role in consciousness-raising.

He said the federal and provincial governments were giving top priority to education sector to enhance literacy rate in the country and they had taken a number of steps, including provision of scholarships to girl students. Mr Bhutto said the Sindh government had earmarked Rs450 million for the purchase of furniture and repair of schools.

He said the disbursement of the amount would be made through school management committees.

Idress Jatoi said literacy ratio in the country was 37 per cent which also included those people who could only write their names.
