LONDON, Dec 20: Chelsea joined Arsenal at the top of the Premier League after Hernan Crespo earned them a 1-0 victory at west London rivals Fulham on Saturday.

The Argentine struck with a powerful second-half header to lift Chelsea to 39 points, level with Arsenal who could only draw 1-1 at Bolton Wanderers for the second successive season.

Robert Pires gave Arsenal the lead in the 57th minute, but Henrik Pedersen’s left-footed blast pulled Bolton level with seven minutes remaining.

Newcastle United were held 0-0 at Charlton Athletic while Aston Villa and Everton both eased their relegation fears with victories against fellow strugglers Blackburn Rovers and Leicester City respectively.

Manchester United can go top with victory at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Earlier, English Premier League matches between Wolves and Liverpool and Birmingham and Middlesbrough were postponed on Saturday after heavy rain left the respective pitches waterlogged.

The Scottish Premier League match between Dundee Utd and Partick Thistle was called off for the same reason, as were a number of matches in the lower leagues both sides of the border.
