TOBA TEK SINGH, June 20: On the orders of the Lahore High Court, Nawan Lahore police on Friday registered a case against its own SI, an ASI and six constables for keeping two brothers in illegal detention.

A writ petition was filed by relatives of two brothers Zulfiqar Ali and Ghulam Rasool of Chak 199-JB, Jhang district, in which Nawan Lahore police were blamed for their illegal arrest. At this, the LHC had sent a bailiff who raided the police station and retrieved Zulfiqar while Ghulam Rasool was not found there. On June 17, the Toba DPO appeared before court and claimed that police had not arrested Ghulam Rasool. However, the wife of Ghulam Rasool told court that a policeman had approached her and demanded Rs200,000 for the release of her husband. After listening to petitioners, the judge ordered the registration of a case against SI Liaquat Ali, ASI Ijaz and six constables involved in the arrest of two brothers.
