KARACHI, June 20: As anger against the construction of the greater Thal canal mounted among the people of Sindh, the labour Party Pakistan on Friday resolved to launch a campaign against the anti-Sindh project.

Executive Council of the party’s provincial chapter has decided to organise week-long rallies. The meeting expressed solidarity with the oppressed haris of Sindh.

It claimed that such dictatorial attitude of the central government was detrimental to the integrity of the country and poor people. It was of the view that the project was being constructed to protect the interests of a few generals and their lackeys.

Meanwhile, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and the Jiye Sindh Mahaz have decided to stage a peaceful protest outside the Karachi Press Club on June 25.

The MQM has already asked the president and the prime minister to stop work on the greater Thal canal project until the reservations of the people of Sindh are not addressed.

It has drawn attention to the reservations expressed by the people of Sindh and has maintained that the MQM opposes the project because it feels that this project will turn Sindh into a barren land. The MQM has also organised a seminar on the Thal Canal issue on June 22.

PML-N: The Sindh president of the Pakistan Muslim League (N), Imdad Chandio and the head of the party’s provincial labour wing, Afzal Gujjar, have vowed to continue their efforts to unite nationalist parties in the struggle against the Thal canal project, adds PPI.
