Pemra chairman axed by president

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain has accepted and signed the advice of the Prime Minister to terminate Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) chairman Chaudhry Rashid Ahmad declaring the appointment ab-initio (illegal from the very beginning).

An official statement from the Presidency said the appointment of Chaudhry Rashid Ahmad as per requirement was neither open nor transparent.

It said the appointment was violative of SCP guidelines and orders in acting chairman Pemra case and in K. Asif vs State case.

"Chaudhry Rashid being Secretary Information and serving government employee initiated a summary proposing himself as a candidate of chairman Pemra without carrying out an open and transparent process of appointment," the statement said.
