Mr Dinos enjoys Gold Cup romp

Published June 20, 2003

ASCOT (England), June 19: Mr Dinos, the 3-1 second favourite ridden by Derby-winning jockey Kieren Fallon, galloped to a six-length victory in the Ascot Gold Cup on Thursday.

Second place in the 12-strong field went to gallant veteran Persian Punch, a 20-1 chance ridden by Martin Dwyer. Pole Star (12-1), the mount of Pat Eddery, plugged on to be third.

The disappointment of the race was Mamool, the 5-2 favourite ridden by Frankie Dettori for the Godolphin team of Sheikh Mohammed of Dubai. The four-year-old ran out of steam in the final two furlongs (400 metres) and could do no better than fifth.
