Haripur school plan shelved

HARIPUR, June 19: The district government’s plan to establish a third high school for boys in Haripur has hit snags as the building in which the institution was to be housed has been taken back by the elementary education department, official sources said.

Owing to overcrowding of existing two public sector schools for boys in the city, District Nazim Dr Raja Aamir Zaman had recently announced the setting up of a high school in the building of Elementary College Haripur from the new academic session.

Official sources said the proposed institution did not require separate staff and could have started functioning with available furniture and other infrastructure of the defunct elementary college.

The building had been lying vacant since the last provincial government’s decision last year to close down elementary colleges in the province.

The hostel of the elementary college had already been rented out to the administration of a girl’s degree college established under the Frontier Education Foundation (FEF). Sources said the FEF had been making attempts to claim the remaining portion of the building as well.
