MULTAN, June 19: Eight more candidates for by-election of the Multan district Nazim received nomination forms from the returning officer on Thursday, raising the number to 12.
However, no one submitted the form on Thursday.
Four candidates — Pir Riaz Husain Qureshi (PML-Q), Shahbaz Ali Gurmani (PTI), Qari Hasnain Ahmad Gilani and Sardar Mohammed Husain Thahim — had received nomination forms till Wednesday.
On Thursday, Shaikh Tahir Rasheed (PML-N), Humera Kausar, Rana Asghar Ehsan, Mufti Hidayatullah Pasrori (MMA), Mohammed Ajmal Hashmi, Mohammed Latif Ansar, Ashfaq Ahmad and Mirza Mohammed Luqman obtained nomination papers from the office of the returning officer.

On Thursday, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 39.2 degrees Celsius and 27.5 degrees Celsius, respectively.
bDIRECTIVE: The additional district and sessions judge on Thursday directed the Makhdoom Rashid SHO not to harass the petitioner, a woman.
Mst Noor Afridi had submitted in her petition that she had married Nasir Khan of Kot Rub Nawaz, Vehari Road, Multan, of her own free will. She said she was leading a happy life with her husband, but the Makhdoom Rashid SHO was harassing her.
The court directed the SHO not to harass her if there was no case against her.
The petitioner has been asked to appear on June 30.
PROTECTION: The additional district and sessions judge on Thursday ordered the Chahlyak SHO to register a case against the assailants who allegedly made a murderous attempt on the petitioner and the witnesses in his son’s kidnapping case.
The court directed the SHO to provide protection to the petitioner and his witnesses from the 13 assailants.
Ghulam Murtaza, a resident of Jhok Vains, submitted in his petition that Nazar, Tariq, Qadir Bukhsh, Ghulam Abbas, Shaban, Iqbal, Allah Ditta, Umar Hayat, Munawwar, Khizar Hayat, Umar Hayat, Sher Mohammed and Mushtaq made a murderous attempt on him and Khan Mohammed, Hashim, Aslam, Jafar and Safdar at Chungi No 7 on Thursday afternoon when they were going back after meeting the additional SP in connection with the investigation regarding kidnapping of his son, Qasim, 14.
Murtaza told newsmen that his son was kidnapped for ransom on April 16, and a case in this regard was registered with the Alpa police on April 30.
The hearing of the petition will take place on June 26.
SALARY ATTACHED: The additional district and sessions judge on Thursday ordered attachment of the salaries of two police officers till further orders after they failed to appear as witness in a case.
Former Cantonment SHO Ashfaq Ahmad and ASI Mukhtar Husain were summoned by the court, but they failed to comply with the court orders. They did not even appear on Thursday in response to a contempt application filed against them.
The court directed the Multan DPO to take a disciplinary action against the police officers. They have also been directed to appear again on June 24, the next date of hearing.—APP
