GHALANAI, June 19: The government deployed army on Thursday at eight different points along the 60km-long northwestern Pakistan-Afghanistan border of Mohmand Agency.

The Pakistan government deployed two army units, four Frontier Corps wings and local Khasadar units along the border to deny entry to miscreants into Pakistan.

All the troops were summoned at the agency’s headquarter Ghalanai and Mamadgat from where they were dispatched to the different places on the border, including Satonkari, Alizai, Trangi Kadao, Ghosray and Samghakhay.

Local tribesmen did not oppose the deployment of troops in the area. Earlier, the government had deployed troops in North Waziristan, South Waziristan, Khyber and Kurrum agencies.

In Bajaur agency, the government had deployed militia wings of the Frontier Corps.

The federal government had also allocated Rs100 million for various development schemes to be carried out in the tribal belt.

The political administration had assured the local people that the troops would honour the local traditions and customs.

AL QAEDA: Pakistan sent its regular army to another semi-autonomous tribal region in the northwest of the country on Thursday to prevent infiltration of Taliban and Al Qaeda fighters from neighbouring Afghanistan, according to a Dpa report from Islamabad.
