KARACHI: Body on land disputes

Published June 20, 2003

KARACHI, June 19: It has been decided that henceforth all land disputes will be settled by Sindh government’s “Regularization Committee,” under the provisions of the Sindh Urban Land Ordinance, 2001.

It is pursuant to the National Accountability Bureau’s persistent efforts for an early settlement of land cases, of “illegal allotment, conversion or exchange and extension of lease”, whether under probe, inquiry or investigation in the NAB or under trial in the courts of law.

In this context, details of all such cases available with the NAB have already been sent to Sindh government for disposal through the regularization committee.

However, the committee may refer any case to the NAB for investigation and prosecution, under the Nat-ional Accountability Ordinance-1999.

According to the NAB, if a case is not settled by the “Regularization Committee” and is referred back to the Bureau, then, onward, it will be proceeded under the National Accountability Ordinance, and will not be referred back to the Committee.

Moreover, the NAB will also monitor the process of regularization to ensure its transparency and handling as per the rules.—APP
