KARACHI, Dec 14: An additional district and sessions court convicted a married woman and her suitor on Friday for adultery and sentenced them to four years’ rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs2,000 each.

They would have to undergo an additional three months’ imprisonment if they failed to pay the fine.

Manzooran Bibi, wife of Imam Bakhsh, had eloped with her lover Ramzan in 1992. The deserted husband lodged a kidnapping case against his wife’s lover with the New Karachi police on July 14, 1992.

Later, the two lovers were arrested in Punjab. They said they had got married. However, they were tried under section 10 (2) of the Zina Ordinance and found guilty of adultery.

ACQUITTED: An additional district and sessions judge, Sagheer Husain Zaidi, acquitted two men, prosecuted for robbing a man of Rs500,000 on September 18, 1998 in the limits of Ferozabad police.

Accused Raza Bhatti and Nadeem alias Nadeem Burger were acquitted of the charge for want of incriminating evidence.
