KARACHI, June 18: Expressing concern over the rapid erection of billboards on buildings and roadsides, the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture has called for a check on the development.

Referring to the proliferation of hoarding pertaining to advertisements all over the city, the Indus Valley School, which encompasses the disciplines of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture, alleged the authorities concerned of lacking the sense of responsibility to take action regarding the issue.

According to a press release of the Indus school, the matter was considered at a meeting of its Board of Governors recently. The board noted with alarm that no official figure had been released with regard to the total number of hoardings erected in the city, while the situation was also fraught with environmental and traffic hazards, and the poor aesthetics.

The board suggested that the provincial government should enforce strict laws and regulations for erection of hoardings in the city, before occurrence of any damage to life and property of citizens.

“The advertisers should be made responsible for any damage to life and property of citizens jointly with all parties concerned”, stated a resolution passed by the BoG.
