HYDERABAD, June 17: Former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin challenged the appointment of K. Madhavan to probe the match-fixing scandal, saying it was “contrary to rules and regulations”, and claimed that his inquiry report had failed to throw any light on the alleged irregularties by cricketers.
Arguing his case before the second additional chief judge here, Azharuddin’s counsel P. Jagdish said BCCI bye-laws never provided for the appointment of an outside agency to inquire into irregularities against a cricketer.
Stating that though rules were amended after allegations of match-fixing surfaced, the counsel claimed that Madhavan was appointed before the bye-laws were amended.—PPI
