ISLAMABAD, June 17: Deputy chief of Jamaat-i-Islami Senator Prof Khurshid Ahmad has expressed disappointment over the tone and content of Gen Musharraf‘s interview on Monday night before embarking on a visit of four Western countries.

In a statement here on Tuesday, the JI leader said Gen Musharraf had taken a stand on certain key issues which was highly disturbing.

He said the general was still trying to run the country as a military dictator and chief executive and his paternalistic attitude towards democracy was indicative of his total disregard for the constitution and democratic principles.

“The world community must know that the people of Pakistan do not look towards him as their elected representative and any commitment he makes will not be binding on the nation,” he maintained.

He said this clarification was necessary because Gen Musharraf had taken a very compromising position in respect of recognition of Israel, which is totally contradictory to the principled stand of the country.”

He said the confusion which Musharraf was creating looked like an echo of the American demand and pressure, which is totally in variance with the feelings and aspirations of the Muslim Ummah.

“In the same vein he has also come out with a confusing and compromising statement that there could be ten formulas for the solution of Kashmir problem.
