Three murder convicts get death

SIALKOT, June 17: Shakargarh Additional District and Sessions judge Suba Sadiq Khan on Tuesday awarded death sentence on two counts and Rs400,000 fine to a convict, and 25-year hard jail and Rs200,000 fine each to four others for killing two people during a dacoity incident at Sarwaal village in April 2001.

The convicts are Muhammad Saleem, who has been awarded death, and Nazir Husain, Muhammad Iqbal, Gulzar Ahmad and Muhammad Akram.

Sialkot District and Sessions judge Chaudhry Zafar Husain handed down death with Rs100,000 to a convict, Ilyas, for killing seminary student Muhammad Ashraf at Gondal village on July 6, 1999.

Meanwhile, Additional District and Sessions judge Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar awarded death sentence and Rs50,000 fine to Sabir Husain convicted of killing landlord Khuda Yar at Rangpur village, Kotli Loharan, on April 1, 1998.

COMMITTEES: The education department has constituted three vigilance committees at tehsil level to check registration, schools’ buildings and educational standards in the private schools and colleges here.

This was stated by Executive District Officer Mirza Muhammad Iqbal while talking to newsmen on Tuesday.

He said these committees comprised educationists who would keep an eye on educational standard and cancel the registration of those private schools failing to impart quality education.

The officials would also conduct raids at private tuition centres being run by government teachers. The EDO said the government teachers would be sacked if they were found teaching at their private tuition centres.

ROBBERY: Robbers on Monday night plundered cash, gold ornaments and valuables worth Rs500,000 from a trader’s house at Sara-i-Bhabriyan.

The robbers burst into Muhammad Rafiq Butt’s house, held up the inmates and escaped with cash and valuables.

The Naikapura police have registered a case with no arrest so far.
