PESHAWAR, June 17: Opponents of the Muttahida Majli-i-Amal are stunned by Frontier government’s achievements, including its unique governance, unanimous approval of the Shariat Bill by the NWFP Assembly, strict financial disciple and its sincerity towards people’s welfare.

This was said by NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani while talking to members of the provincial assembly, who called on him at the Frontier House here on Tuesday.

Praising the government, he said that successive governments in the past had failed in this regard, adding that elements, opposed to the MMA, were greatly perturbed by it.

Dismissing criticism on the provincial government, he said that he did not believe in the criteria used by the MMA’s opponents to gauge success or failure, adding that the success story initiated by the MMA government would continue.

Spurning the MMA government’s opponents, he said that his government was inefficient in areas like corruption, irregularities and other turpitudes “and we are proud of this inefficiency”.

The chief minister said that despite financial constraints, the NWFP government was proud of its people-friendly budget, adding that the government had limited resources against unlimited problems.

Mr Durrani said that the government was trying to bridge the gap between the rulers and the people, adding that the past practice of distancing the government from the people had complicated the situation.

The people did that because the representatives from within their ranks could better comprehend the ground realities and find out a solution to the collectives problems of the people.

He assured the legislators that the NWFP government would continue to work for the people. He said right since the formation of the MMA government, it had been the alliance’s leadership’s desire to provide relief to the people.
