PESHAWAR, June 17: A woman and her daughter were killed and two others injured as the car they were riding fell in Hasan Ghari Canal here on Tuesday.

Police officials said that four persons belonged to Nawa Kallay of Swabi district had come to meet their relatives in Hasan Ghari few days ago.

They were going back to Swabi on Tuesday morning, when their car fell in Hasan Ghari Canal.

Noor Haya, wife of Misbah Ullah and her daughter Taranum killed on the spot, while Mohammad Nawaz and their companion received injuries. Both were rushed to Lady Reading Hospital.

CHARGE ASSUMED: Mohammad Raffat Pasha assumed the charge of his duties as Inspector General of Police, NWFP, in an informal ceremony held at Central Police Office on Tuesday.

Prior to his new appointment Mohammad Raffat Pasha was performing his duties as member Directing Staff in National Defence College, Islamabad, said a press release issued here on Tuesday.

For more than 10 years, Mr Pasha served as the deputy inspector-general of police in various ranges.

He served as DIG Kohat, Malakand, Dera Ismail Khan, Hazara and Peshawar.

In NWFP his last appointment was as DIG Peshawar Range, the post which he held from October 19, 1999 to September 20, 2001.
