KABUL, June 16: Three suspected terrorists were presumed killed when a bomb they were planting exploded late on Sunday night on a major road south of the Afghan capital, the official Bakhtar news agency reported Monday.

“A group of terrorists were planning to plant a bomb under a bridge near Al-Tamur on the road between Kabul and Gardez,” it said.

Two of them were presumed killed when the bomb, assembled from anti-tank mines, went off prematurely, burying them in debris from the bridge which was damaged in the blast near Al-Tamur, Logar province, 60 kilometres (40 miles) south of Kabul.

A third member of the group died from his injuries several hours later in hospital, the agency said.

Police have launched an investigation, it said, without giving further details.—AFP
