Imran doing well in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, June 14: Pakistani junior international Syed Imran Ali Warsi is hitting it right for Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) in the Malaysia Hockey League (MHL).

Imran, making his debut in MHL, scored in all three penalty corners he has taken in his two matches. He scored twice against Ipoh City Hall when they won 5-0 and also hit lone goal for his side in their 1-2 defeat by Sapura last week.

Imran, who turned 20 last week, said he was satisfied with his performance after two matches.

“This is first time I am playing in MHL. I have done well by scoring in first two matches. I am also happy with my penalty corner conversion. I took three penalty corner flicks and scored all three.

“But it is sad my goal against Sapura was not good enough to help my team collect a point. The defeat was a setback in our target to reach final this season,” said Imran, who plays in midfield.

Last year, BSN hired world-renowned penalty corner specialist Sohail Abbas and Kashif Jawed of Pakistan as they swept to the overall title. However, Sohail could not play for BSN this year because of national duty.

BSN coach C. Paramalingam, said he was impressed with Imran’s game and believed they had made a wise move by hiring him this season.

“He is combining well with players and is also good with penalty corners. He also is good with his overhead flicks.”—PPI
