SKARDU, June 14: Shelling by Indian forces has forced 286 families of Frano village in Baltistan to migrate to safer places in Chorbat, sources said.

According to reports, the families have migrated to a safer place near the Abadan village.

Ali, son of Yousaf, died and several people received serious injuries in Frano in the Shyoke sector because of Indian firing from across the Line of Con-trol.

Indian firing in Frano, Siari, Tchawar, Pantuk and Thokmus in Chorbat valley have also reportedly destroyed several houses and cattle pens.

Hundreds of the displaced people are living in the open.

Northern Areas Legislative Council member Ghulam Ali Haideri and Ghanche Deputy Commissioner Fida Hussain provided 25 tents and assured the people of help during their visit to the area last week.

Talking to Dawn, Mr Ali said the government should immediately launch a relief package for the affected people of the Shyoke sector.
