PM vows to protect Amir

ISLAMABAD, June 14: Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali has said government members will not allow the opposition to ‘gherao’ the speaker of the National Assembly following his ruling on the controversial Legal Framework Order.

This was stated by the prime minister while talking to newsmen after meeting National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain at Parliament House here on Saturday. Pakistan Muslim League-Q president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain was also present at the meeting held soon after the speaker’s ruling.

Earlier, leaders of the combined opposition while talking to newsman after staging a walkout from the National Assembly on Saturday morning had threatened to ‘gherao’ the speaker if he gave any “controversial ruling” on the LFO.

Mr Jamali said the speaker was the custodian of the house and, therefore, had the power to give rulings on any issue. He said it was the opposition members who had sought a ruling from the speaker on the LFO.

He said the opposition should have participated in the process.
