PESHAWAR, June 14: A lawyer has served a legal notice on an MPA elected on a seat reserved for minorities, asking him to pay his fee for appearing on his behalf in an election dispute.

The lawyer, Essa Khan advocate, has asked the MPA, Felix Innocent, to pay him his fee amounting to Rs40,000 by June 30, or he would file a suit against him.

Mr Khan had contested his case before the member of Election Commission of Pakistan, Justice Qazi Ahsanullah Qureshi, after last year’s general election.

Three seats were reserved for minorities in the NWFP Assembly. In accordance with the election results, two seats went to the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal. In its priority list, the MMA had given only two names. However, one of the MMA candidates, Ms Julia, stood disqualified as she was not 25 years of age at the time of elections.

Mr Innocent had also filed his nomination papers but he was not on the priority list of the MMA. However, after the disqualification of Ms Julia the MMA presented an application to the Election Commission, requesting that Mr Innocent should be considered their candidate.

The proceedings in that application continued before the member of Election Commission, Justice Qureshi, who finally declared Mr Innocent elected on that seat. Essa Khan claimed that the MPA had not paid a single penny to him and had been putting forward lame excuses.
