ISLAMABAD, Dec 13: President General Pervez Musharraf held separate telephonic conversations with prime minister Tony Blair, US secretary of state Colin Powell, and the secretary-general of the United Nations Kofi Annan.

According to official sources, the president on Thursday evening held detailed discussions with them on the situation in Afghanistan, on the new interim administration which will take over power in Kabul on Dec 22, on the need for the coalition partners to ensure that the interim administration becomes effective, and the UN role in peacekeeping and economic rehabilitation of Afghanistan.

President Musharraf said that Pakistan believed in the unity, integrity and sovereignty of Afghanistan, and would like it to attain peace, security and stability. —APP
