Mr Uustialo was visiting Karimabad education centre, which had been declared the best college of the year.

The Aga Khan Education Service (AKES) has been awarded a grant of 20 million euros for the implementation of the Northern Pakistan Education Programme, over the next five years, says a press release on Thursday.

Mr Uustialo, during his visit, was informed about AKES school facilities, aiming at teacher development, educational management, enhanced community participation, quality improvement and institutional capacity building for government systems, across the Northern Areas and Chitral (NAC).

He lauded the management of AKES for its services for education, hoping it would serve as an example for other educational institutions in the country.

He also emphasized the importance of quality education as an important instrument for strengthening Pakistan, and the continuation of European Commission (EC) support in making a sustainable contribution to the education sector in the country.

He will be visiting the AKES educational facilities and other programmes supported by the EC in the NAC during the current month.
