Breach-affected people protest

KHAIRPUR, June 11: Residents of Roz Mohammad and other villages, who sustained losses when a breach occurred in the Ali Bahar Wah four days back, continued their protest for the second consecutive day on Wednesday outside the office of the Kot Diji taluka Nazim.

They are protesting against irrigation officials for not compensating them for their losses.

They said water was still standing in their villages and lands. They said two pumping machines used for draining out water had stopped functioning and were not replaced.

Later, the villagers held a demonstration before MPA Nawab Ali Wassan.

The MPA said he would also stage a protest sit-in along with the affected people on the National Highway if the villagers were not paid compensation for their losses.

FUNCTION: A function was held here on Wednesday in connection with Madir-i-Millat Year celebrations.

The speakers said Fatima Jinnah had played a great role in the freedom movement.

Bahria Foundation principal Shafi Mohammad Mahar presided over the function.

ACCIDENT: Four persons, including two women, were injured when a car and an oil-tanker collided head-on in Hingorja here on Tuesday night.

One of the injured was identified as driver Naseer Ahmad Shaikh.

BAN: District Nazim Nafisa Shah on Wednesday imposed section 144 CrPC and banned resting of animals in canals of the district.

She took the action after a report from irrigation officials said canal embankments were getting weak due to resting of animals in canals.

ARRESTED: The CIA police arrested three persons in Panj Hatti here on Wednesday for selling spurious oil.

The A-section police had registered a case against the arrested persons, Iqbal Shaikh, Aftab Ahmad and Eidan Soomro.The police also seized 100 cartons of spurious oil.

KILLED: One person was killed and another was injured when a portion of a damaged building fell on them in the Babarloi village here on Wednesday. Talib Shaikh and Ali Bux were repairing the building when a portion of it fell on them. Mr Shaikh was killed and Mr Bux was injured.

FIRE: Ten houses were gutted when fire broke out in the Bachal Khan Mari village the other day.

The houses belonged to Ghulam Mustafa, Sohrab, Ghulam Rasool, Ghulam Qasim, Mumtaz, Balo, Laung, Manzoor, Haleem and Jayan, all Mari by caste.

The fire broke out when a 11kw wire fell on a house and engulfed nearby houses.
