HYDERABAD, June 11: A committee of agriculture experts has been constituted to prepare a report on the recurrence of the “reddening disease” in cotton crop in its initial stages.

The committee consists experts from the Agriculture Research Institute, Tandojam, the Central Cotton Re-search Institute, Sakrand, officials of the agriculture extension wing and representatives of farmers.

The committee will hold its field meeting at a farm of an affected grower in Matiari area, Hyderabad district, on June 13 and will prepare a report based on the last year’s observations, this year’s occurrence and growers’ experiences on the same day.

A package of recommendations will be made on the basis of the report and passed on to growers.

According to a spokesman for the directorate of agriculture information, Sindh, the decision to constitute the committee was taken at a meeting of the cotton monitoring and maximization committee held in the agriculture extension wing office here on Tuesday.

The agriculture experts, field officers and growers’ representatives attended the meeting.

An another committee was also constituted in the meeting to suggest long term measures to study the occurrence of stunt growth and reddening and wilting of leaves in cotton crop.

This year, the symptoms had been reported in cotton crop of Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and Sanghar districts, the spokesman said.
