KARACHI, Dec 4: Former Pakistan Test cricketer Khalid Hasan passed away on Tuesday. He was 76.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in a media release condoled the death of the former Test cricketer.

“The PCB hierarchy and its entire staff pray to the Almighty to bestow the departed soul with eternal peace and grant the family and the dear ones the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” the media release said.

The Peshawar-born Khalid featured in his only Test for Pakistan on their historic maiden tour to England under the captaincy of Abdul Hafeez Kardar in 1954. As leg-spinner, Khalid was part of the playing eleven — around two weeks before his 17th birthday — in the second Test at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.

Besides taking the prized wickets of double century maker Denis Compton and centurion opener Reg Simpson in England’s only innings of the match, Khalid scored 10 and seven not out while batting at number ten spot.

Though Pakistan lost the Nottingham Test by a huge margin of an innings and 129 runs, the tourists made a remarkable comeback to win the fourth Test at The Oval by 24 runs to draw the series 1-1.—Agencies
