PM meets army chief, discusses country's security

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Tuesday met with the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif in Islamabad and discussed issues related to national security as well as professional matters pertaining to the military, DawnNews reported.

The premier met the newly-appointed army chief for the first time and congratulated him on his appointment.

During the meeting, the prime minister and the COAS discussed issues relating to the country’s national security and the military’s functioning.

Nawaz meets defence minister

Earlier in the day, Sharif also held a meeting with the Defence Minister Khawaja Asif at the Prime Minister's House and discussed the issue of missing persons.

During the meeting, the premier advised the defence minister on the issue of missing persons.

Khawaja Asif was given the portfolio of the defence ministry after Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry summoned the defence minister (portfolio then held by the prime minister) during the Supreme Court’s hearing of the missing persons case.
