PESHAWAR, June 10: The NWFP ministers collectively spent over Rs900,000 on fuel and maintenance of their staff cars during four months starting from Dec 1 last.

Details of the fuel consumed and funds used for repair and maintenance of their staff cars between December 2002 and March 2003, were presented before the provincial assembly here on Tuesday, in reply to a question asked by Bashir Ahmed Bilour, parliamentary leader of the ANP.

In all, the 12 provincial ministers, six each representing Jamaat-i-Islami and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam, collectively spent Rs938,346 in a four-month period.

According to the calculations made by Dawn, of the total amount a sum of Rs354,209 was spent on the purchase of fuel and Rs584,137 on repair and maintenance of cars in their use.

The six provincial ministers belonging to JUI spent Rs602,794, including Rs158,634 for the purchase of fuel and Rs443,794 on repair and maintenance of their staff cars.

The ministers belonging to JI spent Rs335,917, including Rs195,574 on fuel and Rs140,343 on maintenance.
