KARACHI, June 10: Sindh National Front Chairman Sardar Mumtaz Ali Bhutto on Tuesday criticized the federal government for allocating funds, in federal budget, for construction of Thal Canal and other controversial projects in the province.

Mr Bhutto, in a press statement, said that the ministers and Sindh assembly members should resign to show courage and honour, reacting to what he called a ‘disgrace for the people of Sindh’.

He accused Punjab of meeting its water requirement, through filling its dams and canals, at the cost of the people of Sindh, who, he said got adversely affected in period of water shortage.

He said: “to say that Thal Canal is a flood canal is totally wrong, as there are other such canals in Punjab which are operated during shortage of water also.”

He appealed to all the ministers and members to “show their loyalty to the soil, by resigning and going to Lahore for staging a ‘dharna’ in front of the Meenar-e-Pakistan”.—PPI
