RAWALPINDI, Dec 13: The Lahore High Court, Rawalpindi Bench on Thursday directed the Accountability Court, to submit a report about the progress in the corruption case against former Indus Bank chairman Khurshid Sohail.

Justice Mohammad Nawaz Abbasi, on the petition of Mr Sohail seeking bail on the plea that no proceeding had taken place in his case for the last 14 months, directed the Accountability Court to submit the report till January 8.

The petitioner also stated that he was a heart patient and needs to be granted bail. The court also directed the executive director, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims), to submit a report about the health of the accused, who is admitted there.

Advocate Wasim Sajjad represented the petitioner.

According to the prosecutor the accused illegally obtained loan from the bank in the name of different firms for personal benefits.

The prosecution also alleged that Mr Sohail in connivance with three co-accused, who had absconded, violated laws, rules and regulations of the State Bank. All the co-accused, including the son of the accused, have already been declared absconder.

The charges said that Mr Sohail, by using the services of money changers arranged funds which was brought back from US to show as a foreign investment.
