Man shoots wife, two sons

GUJRANWALA, June 9: A man shot dead his wife, two young sons and injured another son over domestic issue at Asghar Colony here on Monday.

Ashiq Hussain’s sons — Niamat Hussain (25), Muhammad Arif (20) and Muhammad Naeem (10) were said to be disobedient and involved in wrongdoings. He had not only pulled them up repeatedly for their misdeeds but also advised them to share his burden. However, they could not mend their ways. On Monday, Ashiq opened fire on his sons when they were asleep in their house, killing Niamat and Naeem instantly and injuring Arif seriously. He also shot dead Rasoolan Bibi when she tried to rescue her children. The injured was admitted to the local DHQ Hospital.

Senior police officers rushed to the spot along with a heavy police contingent and had the bodies shifted to the local DHQ Hospital.

Sabzi Mandi police have arrested the accused and registered a case against him.

Gepco dues: Steps are being taken to recover the outstanding power dues of Rs120 million from furnaces.

This was stated by Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) chief executive Saifullah Khalid while speaking at an open kutchery here on Monday.

He warned that defaulters should clear their outstanding dues without any delay otherwise their cases would be referred to private companies for the recovery.

He made a fervent appeal to consumers for the payment of their electricity bills of the current month by the end of this month so that the power supply system could be revamped.

Gepco officials, he said, were making their best efforts to supply power without any hurdle despite acute heat and heavy load. Consumers should inform him directly if any Wapda sub-division suspended power supply unnecessarily for hours, he said.

The Gepco chief warned that consumers found involved in stealing domestic or commercial electricity would be taken to task.

Agricultural connections would be given to farmers in accordance with the prescribed rules and regulations, he added. Gepco chief engineer Chaudhry Muhammad Siddique, human resources and administration director Col Ghazanfar Ali Khan and other senior officers were also present on the occasion.

DEMOTED: Another SHO was demoted by the Range police chief on the charge of dereliction of duty here on Monday.

DIG Malik Muhammad Iqbal reviewed the service record of Pindi Bhattian SHO Farooq Hassan and found various irregularities.

LHC order: The union council 44/B Naib Nazim, who was restrained from working by the district coordination officer because of no-trust movement against him, has been asked to resume job by the Lahore High Court on Monday.

A majority of the union council members had passed no confidence movement against the Nazim, accusing him of being involved in corruption a month ago. The DCO restrained him from working and sent his case to the local government for further action.

The Nazim filed a writ petition with the LHC against the DCO’s decision.

FIRE: Fireworks were reduced to ashes at a godown where a cigarette sparked fire at a market here on Monday.

Abid had established a fireworks godown in the market. Its items were reduced to ashes in fire which was caused by cigarettes.

Fire fighters took an hour in extinguishing flames.

ARMS’ DEALERS HELD: The district police claimed on Monday to have arrested two arms’ dealers during a raid here.

On receiving information, District Police Officer Saud Aziz constituted a team which raided an agency and arrested its owners Haji Gul Khan and Zahoor Khan. They seized 44 rifles, three pistols, eight magazines and many cartridges.
