PESHAWAR, Dec 13: Doctors have asked parents not to allow their children to purchase various types of explosive toys for Eid celebrations as these could lead to tragic incidents.
The Pakistan Institute of Community Ophthalmology (PICO), here in a press release on Thursday, said it had been commonly observed that during Eid celebrations parents allow their children to purchase explosive toys like crackers, pellets, bullets, etc., without any consideration for the consequences. All these toys are made up of highly inflammable material which could cause trauma to their eyes, the press release warned.
It said: “We can commonly observe this kind of negligence during Eid celebrations when parents allow their children to buy explosive toys like crackers, pellets, bullets, etc., without considering their consequences.”
Expressing concern over the grave situation, it reminded the parents of their responsibility at home, and also urged the teachers to schedule health education activities in schools to educate the children about the harmful effects of plying with the harmful toys. It also demanded of the government to take this matter very seriously. “The government should introduce an effective legislation against manufacturers and check the marketing of explosive toys by imposing penalties against those who are responsible for this crime,” the press release concluded.
