HYDERABAD, June 9: The Nazim and Naib Nazim of union council-3, Q. Mohammad Hakim and Abdul Hameed, respectively, have appealed to the Sindh governor, the chief minister, the Sindh minister for Local Bodies, the district Nazim, members of the National and provincial assemblies to complete the pending schemes of greater sewerage programme of Rs500 million of the Sindh governor without any delay and announce a separate grant of Rs1 billion for water supply schemes.
Speaking at a press conference at the press club on Monday, they said that Rs1 billion grant should be used for replacement of old water supply lines, construction of filter plant, installation of pumping stations, etc., and added that the causes leading to delay in the completion of greater sewerage programme schemes must be determined.
They said that all kinds of irritants in the schemes should be removed so that these could be completed on time.
Referring to the recent water crisis in their union council, they said a plan was prepared and after six days the situation was brought under control.
They said that the crisis was the result of a water pipeline bursting at Ghariabad as a result of which around 100,000 people were affected.
They said that work on laying an 18-meter water pipeline was going on.
They said a nullah was being constructed on the Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar Road and a separate sewerage line from Pathan Colony to the National Highway had been approved.
They said that if the provincial and district governments did not become serious, then such water crisis would continue in future as well, and added that the people of Hyderabad would face tremendous difficulties in getting their supply of drinking water, resulting in a law and order situation.
Dilating on the issue of the water supply, they pointed out that the water pipelines had been laid out at least 40 years back and with the passageof time they had outlived their age.
About the Annual Development Programme and the Khushhal Pakistan Programme, they said that schemes under both these programmes should be identified as soon as possible for the next fiscal year so that they could be executed and completed on time.
