BEIJING, June 8: Pakistan will reopen its border with China this month.

The reopening of the Korakaram border was delayed because of SARS virus threat. Official sources told APP that a meeting would be held in Islamabad within a week to review latest Sars situation for reopening the border.

The Sino-Pakistan border is normally closed for trade and travelling in early November due to heavy snowfall at the Khunjerab Pass and reopened on May 1.

The decision to delay the reopening was taken as a preventive measure. “Though the government has dispatched manpower and equipment to the Sust checkpoint for screening passengers, authorities were of the opinion that arrangements were insufficient in view of the expected volume of public movement.—APP
