LAHORE, June 8: The deputy director of Lahore Development Authority (LDA) was shot dead outside his house in the Chenab Block of Allama Iqbal Town on Sunday.
His brother, Nawaz, told the police that the deceased, Haji Hayat Gondal (50), was sitting outside his house when two men came on a motorcycle, whipped out pistols, opened fire on him and escaped. Mr Gondal sustained serious injuries. He was taken to the Shaikh Zaid Hospital, where he died.
Mr Nawaz suspected that property-dealers Malik Jamshid, Talib, Amjad and Khalid might have had something to do with the murder of his brother, whom they “wanted to bribe for favours”. They might have killed him on his refusal to fulfil their demands, he alleged.
The deceased is survived by a widow and four children.
Meanwhile, a man identified through his belongings as Maqsood Ahmad, a resident of Narowal, was shot dead by two motorcyclists in Misri Shah. Nothing could be known either about the killers or the motive behind the murder, said the police while sending the body to the city mortuary for autopsy. A case was registered with no arrest.
