KARACHI, June 6: The Sindh High Court on Friday adjourned the hearing of a writ petition against the detention of a PPP-Shaheed Bhutto leader to Saturday at the provincial home department’s request.

The petition has been filed by Ms Sakina, wife of Ali Mohammed Sonara, Sindh president of the PPP-SB. He was taken into custody under the MPO for 30 days on May 15, the day of his release in a bomb blast case. He was implicated in the 1990 blast without being named an accused by the complainant.

Earlier, he was booked in a number of cases involving murders, conspiracy and sedition, etc. He was either exonerated or enlarged on bail by the trial courts.

A home department section officer requested the court to adjourn the hearing to Saturday to enable him to seek instructions and place the material that necessitated the detention order before it. The request was allowed.

Sonara was brought to the court in an armoured personnel carrier and produced before the bench amid tight security.
