Four of a family murdered

SIALKOT, June 5: Four family members, including two women, were brutally murdered by some unknown killers in their house late Thursday night in Khokhar Town, Shatabgarha (Uggoki).

Safiyan, who had come back from Lahore, found his father Muhammad Sabir Mughal, mother Surayya Sarwat, brother Hafiz Salman and sister Nausheen in a pool of blood. Their throats were slit open by some unknown killers with sharp-edged weapons. The ill-fated youth fell unconscious after seeing the bodies of his dear ones. Till the filing of this story, he was not in a position to give any statement to the Uggoki police.

Uggoki police are going into the matter.

Water channels: District Nazim Mian Naeem Javaid has announced a 70 per cent subsidy on the construction of paved water channels in the fields.

Speaking at a meeting with farmers in the Harnah village, he observed that smooth flow of water through paved channels could help enhance the per acre yield.

The Nazim said that the district government had chalked out a comprehensive programme for the farming sector. He urged the farmers to adopt modern technology for enhancing the per-acre yield. He said that the Parachute Technology introduced by the federal agriculture research council could help double the per acre yield.

EXHIBITION: A five-day calligraphic exhibition featuring Quranic verses began at the Seerat Study Centre here.

Sialkot garrison commander Maj-Gen Mohammad Sabir and Maj-Gen Sikandar Afzal inaugurated the exhibition, which had been arranged by local calligrapher Lt-Col Aamir Raza.

Sialkot Nazim Mian Naeem Javaid, Sialkot station commander Brig Zaka Ahmad Siddiqui and Seerat Study Centre in-charge Prof Abdul Jabbar Sheikh were also present on the occasion.

INDIAN ACTION THWARTED: The Pakistani security forces thwarted another Indian attempt at fencing in the Sialkot working boundary’s Jammu-Saamba-Akhnoor Sector here early Thursday morning.

According to official sources, Indian forces continued firing at villages in the Sialkot working boundary’s Chhumb, Joriyan, Chaprar, Jammu, Saamba, Akhnoor, Harpal, Umranwali, Zafarwal and Shakargarh-Narowal sectors.
